Lady at Drive Thru: Welcome to McDonalds, how can I help you?
Me: I'd like a 20 piece nugget.
Lady: Would you like sauce with that?
Me: Yes, I will have one of each sauce
Lady: You only get 3 sauces with a 20 piece and any extra is 30 cents each.
Me: I'm ok with that (I really wasn't, but I didn't want to fight). And while I'm buying extra sauces throw in a few extra sweet and sour sauces too.
Lady: Ok. Pull up to the window.
We pay and get our food, I open the bag to make sure they put sauce in (they have been really fail about it lately. Not that I'd know, because I don't like nuggets. lol.) and all they gave me was 6 BBQ sauces. Really? REALLLY? I told the guy that I had ordered one of each sauce and a few extra sweet and sours and all I got was BBQ. He gave me one of each and 2 extra sweet and sours. I asked if he wanted the two handfuls of BBQ back and he was like "Nope. Have a nice day". If they can give me all of those sauces for free, why did they charge me in the first place? Whatever. Also they didn't have the buffalo sauce (that's why it's not pictured). I had to go back another day and get it.
Anyways, now to the good stuff. Here are my reviews. They are in order of which one I liked best.
- Honey Mustard - I loved this one. Really tasty. Creamy, rich, a little spicy, a little sweet, just plain good. I liked how it had flecks of whole mustard in it and wasn't just yellow mustard mixed with honey.
- Sweet and Sour - This used to be my favorite. I never tried it until I met Zak. I always had bad experiences with sweet and sour sauces, so I thought McDonalds wouldn't be any different, but let me tell you... it's delicious. It has a way more sophisticated taste than I expect from McDonalds. It tastes like there's allspice or Chinese 5 spice in it, but I looked up a million copycat recipes online and they don't have anything out of the ordinary in them. I guess that's for another blog post to find out.
- Chipotle BBQ - I looked on their website and this one isn't even listed. I think we have a special McDonalds. I liked it better than the regular BBQ sauce. It was a bit smokier. Pretty yummy.
- Sweet Chili - It was pretty good. I thought it was a little too sweet, but spicier than expected. It reminded me of a crappy version of the dipping sauce you get with spring rolls at a Thai restaurant. It wasn't horrible, but wasn't great.
- Hot Mustard - Basically this one is just mustard. The end.
- Spicy Buffalo - I think the sweet chili sauce was spicier, but maybe that's just me and it was a little on the tangy side. I really didn't care for it. I had a really hard time choosing if this should go before or after the hot mustard on my goodness scale. Ultimately, I decided that if given a choice between the two sauces, I would rather have the mustard.
- Tangy BBQ - I rated this one so low because why would you have tangy BBQ when you can have chipotle BBQ?
- Ranch - I don't really like ranch to begin with and this just seemed like a really low quality ranch. I didn't like it.
Here is Zoey with the sauces. She loves to dip.
Wow, that is quite the review! Very thorough indeed, thank you for this...lol. And as soon as I read "nuggs" I missed you badly. And the Great Taco Bell Experiment.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the commercial for the new sauces I got really excited (i love sauce!). I'm so glad you did this, thanks for saving me $1.50 on the additional sauces I don't need to buy now!
ReplyDeleteI can't stand McD's nuggets anymore. BK was horrid too when shaped as crowns but they fixed that and are not shabby now.
ReplyDeleteBUT I SO AGREE WITH YOU WEEZE! The whole reason I was into McD's nuggets was the HONEY sauce! I can't believe they stopped serving!
My fave is Wendy's nuggets with Honey Mustard now though anyway. Best to me. EXCEPT when we were in Florida and could have Chick-Fil-A nuggets.....soooo good, no sauce needed!
I agree! Where did the honey sauce go! Oh well guess you'll have to go to KFC for honey!
ReplyDeleteWow with all these new sauces why can't they bring back honey. I wont eat their nuggs because I need honey. Should we start a bring back honey website. I'm also baffled by the fact that they think you should eat 20 nuggs with only 3 sauces. Totally not enough.
ReplyDeleteCan't remember the last time I had a McD McNugget. I'm mostly opposed...but...maybe I need to try the top three sauces.
ReplyDeleteTruly, this article is really one of the very best in the history of articles. I am a antique ’Article’ collector and I sometimes read some new articles if I find them interesting. And I found this one pretty fascinating and it should go into my collection. Very good work! Peruvian Food
