I ate my first ever soft shell crab yesterday. It's kind of a travesty that I've never had one before since I've lived in New England practically my whole life, but I remember the first time I watched my mom eat one. I couldn't stop laughing because it totally didn't look edible. It looked like a very large, deep fried spider. Not that I've ever been scared to eat anything (even if it did look inedible), but I just never really had the opportunity/made the opportunity.
Behold... the soft shell crab!.
And man... it was good. First, I ripped off the legs and claws and ate them straight up. The meat was so sweet! Then I put tartar sauce on the toast and ate the body like a sandwich. There was a part of the shell that was hard to chew, so I ended up opening the sandwich and picking the meat out. I've never been opposed to getting messy whilst eating but this was definitely worth the mess.
This almost makes me wish I could stomach any kind of seafood. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little jealous with your description of its goodness.
